About Helen Melone

Helen has over ten years of energy policy experience. Most recently, she was head of heat & solar policy at Scottish Renewables, leading work on heat networks, heat pumps, and the wider decarbonisation of heat, also building policy around the Scottish Government's proposed ambition for 4 - 6 GW of solar PV by 2030. She wrote the report National Heat Networks: A Vision for Scotland when working there. Helen was a core member of the Green Heat Finance Taskforce which recently published its Stage 2 report.

Her work with the trade association involved managing and supporting the development of their policy positions, which aimed to create the conditions for the sustainable growth of Scotland’s renewable energy industry and communicating these effectively to key policy and regulatory decision makers. Previously she led its hydrogen policy work and was shortlisted in the Policy and Regulation category of the 2023 Women in Hydrogen 50.

Helen had a policy and research role with Energy Action Scotland, the national Scottish fuel poverty charity. She led a major piece of work in 2019, putting forward amendments to the Fuel Poverty (Targets, Definition and Strategy) (Scotland) Bill (now Act) at Stages 2 and 3 of the Parliamentary process.

Helen has a Master's degree in Research Methods (MRes) from Glasgow Caledonian University and received a distinction for her research on gender-based perspectives of fuel poverty in Scotland.
